From what we hear, Monday's in an office building mean catching up on paperwork, emails, and phone calls that have piled up over the weekend! Monday's at a wedding venue = fielding calls, searching the property, and gathering forgotten items from the weekend of weddings! Our lost & found box definitely has a very important job!
And how couldn't it? When parties arrive before a wedding starts, car unloading can seem to be endless! Getting ready here requires a change of clothes, makeup, hair accessories, snacks, beer, and various sources of entertainment. If nothing were ever left, we would probably be working in the Twilight Zone!
The organization of found items and items that are reported missing are sometimes difficult. If ever we have 5 weddings between Friday night and Sunday night, you never know who might have left it! Sometimes the items are very obvious: bridesmaid's dresses, items that actually have names written on them, etc. However, sometimes we find sunglasses, keys, heels, and sweaters, even wedding rings! At that point in time, we have no choice but to play the waiting game for someone to claim them. Some things never are and some things are found months done the line!
How do other businesses handle lost & found? I always feel bad when we have things that someone must still want, but just have no idea how to return a man's wedding band when there have been 5 weddings on site in three days and it was found in the parking lot!
